i wrote a blog similar to this (entitled "true greatness") last year after the spurs swept the western conf finals, before everyone started to praise the spurs and criticizing miami heat. if the nba was the stock market i would be coining money. i see things before everyone sees them.
i’m not really a spurs fan but i gotta admit the spurs is the most impressive team ever if you really know basketball. the spurs dominated for 15 years using the same core with just 1 top pick (duncan) and using supporting casts nobody really wanted. ginobili – 57th pick. are you kidding me? tony parker – 28th pick. unbelievable !!! at least now the spurs has built enough fan base such that it won’t hurt the nba if they win a championship. i remember when the spurs were winning championships the nba ratings and merchandise sales were at an all time low. the spurs is simply a boring team. you have to be really smart to appreciate the spurs. it’s like if mozart was still alive justin beiber would still make more money than mozart because you have to be highly intellectual to appreciate classical music and there are not many intellectual people in this world.
meanwhile the miami heat is like an overnight assembled all star team. i think the nba is trying to make lebron a fake michael jordan to try to revive the popularity and merchandize sales of the nba during the michael jordan years. don’t get me wrong i hope the nba succeeds i am a big fan of clever business practices. it’s like santa claus even if the legend is just a myth it rovides clean fun and enjoyment to many people and i’m all for that. and i also like the filipino coach to win more rings.
what i’m writing is simply intellectual honesty and i’m just showing off my foresight and foreskin which is very important especially in the world of investments. the trick in investing is to look for undervalued assets like a bernadette matiga or a san antionio spurs and avoid over valued assets like a reviliza or miami heat. example, what is the most undervalued asset in cebu right now? answer: alta vista country club share. (it’s weird i’m writing this in room b-20 of matig-a pension house in tabilaran right now. i had a kick ass blast partying in atmosphere club last night. yup i’m in earthquake sticken bohol right now. but for the wrong reasons)
the spurs whole is greater than the sum of it's parts. this is one of my favorite investment analysis technique. 1-1 lebron vs duncan = lebron wins. 1-1 bosh vs ginobli = bosh wins. 1-1 wade vs unyot parker = wade wins. but duncan + ginobli + unyot > lebron + bosh + wade. if spurs was a stock, i would buy it. i always assign a high premium to quality management and leadership. coach popovich is a much better coach than phil jackson. phil has more rings because of his charisma pinna - the best players want to play for him and there are always lots of superstars in his team unlike popovich who develops his players to be stars.
don’t get me wrong i think lebron is still one of the best in history – the same level as charles barkeley, patrick ewing, kobe, shaq, pippen, etc ... but nowhere near michael jordan. lebron james is like charles barkeley who teamed up with ewing and clyde drexler. then when they needed a 3 pointer they simply got reggie miller. of course they would win a championship. i mean, any average player could win a championship if he gets 3 other superstars in his team. meanwhile, michael jordan, duncan, billups, hakeem built their team to win championships using teammates nobody really wanted and they used their leadership and work ethic to develop their team to win a championship. what lebron did was like he was in a war battle and in the middle of the battle when his troops were losing he simply sided with the enemies. hahahaha !!!
my favorite is actually billups. he wanders around the nba for almost a decade as a nobody and he just kept working hard on his skills until finally he was able to be in a team with ZERO superstars and he leads his team in knocking out kobe/shaq/gasol/bynum for 2 straight years and wins 1 championship. WOW !!! i mean WOW !!!
can you imagine jordan has been retired for 10 years now. yet when i was in hooters manila recently i was talking with this ultra hot chic i asked her what she enjoys the most in life she said shopping and i asked her what is her dream shopping buy right now she said J’s. i didn’t know what it was i thought it was a new michael kors or versace it turns out J’s is slang for michael jordan basketball shoes. unbelievable !!! even 10 years after retirement michael jordan is still making coin for the nba. not only that, michael jordan’s powerful brand has spread into a people that doesn’t even care about basketball. it’s clear why it would be very smart for the nba to do whatever it can to try to trick the fans into making lebron a demi god like michael jordan.
btw, is it just me that i think espn deportes is a bad name considering there are many illegal latinos who are in fear of being deported?

is it "spurs has a good offense" or "miami just had a lazy defense"? i think it's the latter, which is fixable, which means miami could still win it all. this is how you find value in investments that are left for dead by everyone. if you are wrong, you don't lose money because there are no more sellers they all sold already. but if you are right, you make lots of money. huge upside vs no downside.
after spurs win championship:
lebron has proven my charles barkeley disease thesis. i should get an honorary doctorate in zero faceboook likes.
heat fans are lucky today is a huge character building experience for them. i hate to be a spurs fan right now today is a character spoiling experience. a spoiled weak character grows old dating young chics. a strong character grows old to be a great father and family guy. HAPPY FATHERS DAY !!!
duncan parker and ginobli should have 7 rings. last year they were 1 defensive rebound away from a ring. and a few years back that hail mary from derek fisher way beyond the arc with less than a second left that went in caused them another ring because the east was very weak at that time. if that did not go in, they would have cruised through the nba finals.
