because anti virus slows down the computer, my alternative solution is to disable the anti virus and use the restore feature of windows. start with a clean install (or do a complete virus scan then disable the anti virus), also do the modifications in this article. then create a restore point and name it "PRISTINE 1". then use the computer to your hearts content not worrying about the virus and malware. when your computer starts to get dirty from virus and malware, simply restore back to PRISTINE 1. it's fairly quick and easy. then whenever you have a major change to your system, like installing a new software tool, restore back to PRISTINE 1, do your install, and then create another restore point and label it PRISTINE 2 (and so on and so forth). what i do is for the little modification, like changing paths and minor settings, i simply keep a list. then when the list grows big enough or i need to do a major software install, i restore back to the last PRISTINE X, do all the modifications, then create another PRISTINE X.
also after a restore operation i always clean all my temporary internet files. whenever i do this all of a sudden my browser becomes very quick and responsive which is weird because the temporary internet files includes the cache which is designed to speed up browsing.
there is a bug in vista where wifi does not work with some wifi routers. to fix this ,run regedit, search for all instances of DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag and set the value to 0, then restart the computer. if the problem still happens, then go to device manager/network adapters, right click your wifi card and click disable. then enable it again. if the problem still happens, then right click again and choose "uninstall". then right click "computer" and choose "scan for hardware changes". this will automatically install the drivers. then run regedit to set all instances of DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag to 0.
the only way to prevent your wireless mouse movement from waking up the computer during sleep mode is to unplug the usb (i tried unchecking the "allow this computer to wake up the computer" in hardware properties it did not do the trick).
also go to device manager/network adapters/<your wifi card>/properties/power management and uncheck "allow the computer to turn off this device ..." and also uncheck " allow this device to wake up the computer"
