t61 repair tips and techniques

the ibm thinkpad (renamed to lenovo) is like the BMW of laptops in terms of performance and reliability except it's easy and cheap to repair and replace parts. i can buy a motherboard in ebay for $34, the lcd screen for $50, a 120gb hard drive for $25, etc ... one of the top model is the t61. i bought 3 t61 for $100 each in ebay for my family 2 years ago and so far only had to replace one of the hard drives.

i've been feeling like a parasite lately consuming very valuable information from the internet that really helped me fix my house, car and a/c. so i decided to make a video to share my t61 secrets.

this 2 part video is all you need to know to replace any part including  motherboard fan/cpu, memory or RAM, hard drive, wifi and lcd display screen. techniques to dislodge the locking tabs of lcd frame liner, mousepad board and keyboard liner.

includes bios setting fix for "no disk found" during windows setup or blue screen during windows startup (the fix is to set hardware/SATA to compatibility mode)

and if you have a problem where the laptop shuts down during windows startup or when trying to access disk during setup, and you cannot turn it on again without first disconnecting the power supply and battery, it's a hard disk problem - replace it

if you lost the hard drive cover screw, you can use one of the screws in the hard drive caddie. none of the other screws in the laptop will work.
