thrones concerns

i just heard that season 7 of thrones has started. i haven’t watched it but after watching season 6 i’m worried and concerned because i don’t see how the show can continue to sustain the intriguing conflicts and suspense.

the show should have ended after season 6. all the bad people are dead or severely punished and all the likeable characters are in a good place. the only possible conflict would be if little finger succeeds in manipulating the starks and khaleesi to fight each other, which would be just annoying and not interesting. jon snow is not power hungry and just wants peace and prosperity for his people and khaleesi and tyrion are benevolent rulers. plus tyrion and sansa are dear friends.

the only suspense i’m anxious to see is the reunion of arya and her siblings, and what happens next with sandor clegane. it would also be awesome to see a friendly meeting between jon snow and khaleesi and everyone will be dumbfounded when the dragons bow down to jon snow (since snow has as much targaryan blood as khaleesi). i would also be kilig to the bones on a tyrion-sansa reunion. i can only imagine the wit, humor, honor and grace of their dialogue i hope it won't dissapoint.

if the show would maintain it’s consistency and integrity then it should be easy for arya to take out cersei and it should be easy for humans to defeat the white walkers because as shown in the siege of mereen and the big kaboom in king’s landing, humans already have the technology to harness fire for warfare, and the white walkers can be killed by fire. the leaders of white walkers cannot be killed by fire but the dragon glass and valerian steel can kill them.

it would be a turn off to see the show spoil it’s quality and integrity by cheap twists just to create more conflict and drama. of course i will continue to watch the show but i never thought a time would ever come where i feel this way about the show.

one possible twist to create conflict is if a likable character transforms into a villain. it’s never been done before, and i don’t think it would ever sell. on the other hand thrones is known to be a trailblazer (i.e. red wedding, which to my amusement traumatized many of my weak minded friends and family.. i'm not cruel, i believe it was a character building experience for them). in the history of film, the only transformation is bad to good, but jaime lannister’s character is still an amazing trailblazing achievement considering his “unforgivable sins” - incestious child murderer transforming into a likable honorable character. it's amazing how they pulled that off. it even teaches you a lesson on complexity of humans which you can apply in the real world and improve your quality of life and relationships in this world.

update after watching season 7:

they milked it !!! they masterfully and brilliantly milked the climax !!! it's almost as if the writers read the thrones concerns i wrote in this blog after season 6 and addressed them. i said any conflict manufactured by little finger will just be super annoying so they killed him. it was not really season 7. it was just an extension of season 6. a prolonging of the climax with KILIG TO THE BONES REUNIONS. each reunion and each scene was full of mind blowing WIT, HUMOR, GLORY, HONOR and GRACE. at times it got too intense for me i had to pause it and walk around the room just to prevent myself from exploding into ecstasy.

even in that episode where the task force was trekking beyond the wall on their way to capture a walking dead. i thought finally this will be at least boring and i can rest. instead it turned out to be the best episode. every dialogue was just hitting it out of the ball park.

but still there were times when i thought the writers wasted some opportunities. for example, when the hound told lady brienned "if she's (arya) there and you're here, who is protecting her?", it would have been so awesome if jon snow heard the conversation and reacted with confusion because the hound is suppose to be their mortal enemy.

many of my predictions came true. the dragon bowing to jon snow. arya did not kill cercei but even better - she killed the entire freys (i despise old dudes with young girlfriends). now i don't even know if i like cercei dead because the baby in her womb is the neice/nephew of tyrion. i hope she just gets house arrest or small-castle arrest. anyway the lannister-stark conflict was just little finger's manipulation and robert's rebellion was based on a lie.

it's also as if the writers read the convo i had with my friend rafael ruflo in facebook regarding the weapons needed to defeat the walking dead. i said fire should be enough. paeng brought up dragon glass and i told him it will be needed to kill the leader of the white walkers but it cannot be mass produced so it won't be much of a factor. lo and behold turns out dragon stone is sitting on top of a mine of dragon glass so turns out they can mass produce it after all.

game of thrones is the second best tv show/movie ever created. second only to the 1974 film bambina.
