you can also use a private wiki for barkadas, businesses, school batchmates, projects, etc ... you can maintain meeting minutes, project status, summary and details of your assets, budget, expense reports, to-do list and responsibilities for each member, schedule, deadlines, etc ... it avoids redundancy, out of date information and confusion and minimizes emails, and lessens the need for meetings. it also makes meetings more efficient because attendees can just read the wiki before the meeting, you can just use the wiki as the slides for the meeting (especially when skyping), even update the wiki in real time during the meeting. the wiki also has version control so you can easily revert back to previous versions, which can be useful for resolving conflicts based on disagreements on past data.
in the past my uncles and aunts always had miscommunication which resulted in quarrels, and even death. everyone in the family now hates my dad for killing his brother, my tito gerry. the water well pump in the family compound broke, and my dad decided to connect to public water utility system because it's more reliable and our water pump kept breaking and the ground water was already running out. of course it always takes time to connect to the public water system, so my my tito gerry got dehydrated because there was no water, and caused him to get liver cancer. my dad and tito gerry was very close. i mean, all the stories they both used to tell me about their adventures in the mindanao jungles and stuff like that. so my dad was shocked when he was not allowed to visit his dying brother. the wake was actually funny because my dad wasn't aware that everyone was already notified he was the reason why tito gerry died so when he entered the room of the wake everyone stared at him and was thinking, "oh my god he is the killer". then my cousin posted in facebook blaming my dad for his dad's death. there were lots of comments of condolence and demonizing my dad as a killer (this is actually a true story. some stuffs in my blog are obviously a joke but this is a true story, and even more bizarre considering my dad and his siblings graduate from ateneo, which i was not even smart enough to get in. so my dad's siblings are suppose to be the smartest people in the world, and they live very normal social lives with lots of friends and easily get 200 likes in their facebook posts which makes me feel maybe it's a good thing people hardly clicks like on my facebook posts. that is why i believe my blog article https://ian-crystal.blogspot.com/2019/06/politics-for-dummies.html should be taught in schools because it teaches basic common sense logic and emotional pitfalls). i actually had no idea about this until i saw the facebook post. i don't normally involve in family quarrels and chismis because long time ago already dismissed my parent's siblings as a bunch of "functional retards" (they are very functional in society but when it comes to family relationships they miraculously transform into retards). i was literally shell shocked, considering before i saw the post, my cousin who posted it was one of my closest buddies. i was like, "HOLY SHIT !!! WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON ???". i immediately ran to my mom who told me everything. i immediately got worried about my dad because i know to him family is everything and he loved and cared for all his siblings all his life. imagine all of a sudden the most important people in my dad's life thinks he is a killer. so i then ran to him and when i entered his room he was watching TV and to lighten the mood i pointed to him and said "YOOOOOOOOOU MURDERER !!! YOU MURDERED YOUR BROTHER !!!". he laughed and i tried to console him with my psycho antiques that i usually blog about and post in facebook. finally my blogging skills was put to good use. i told him family is really like a natural disaster all you can do is do what is right to the best of your capabilities and not worry if your siblings turn out to be a bunch of morons. it's not their fault. it's not your fault. it's just a simple luck of the draw of nature. just like typhoon yolanda. all you can do is be happy and thankful for your blessings in life and forget about things that are out of your control. after that I CANCELLED ALL MY WORLD TRAVELS and decided to stay in the philippines and take care of my family after realizing they are basically like children and i'm the only adult. since then i felt it more important than ever to keep writing blogs and posting it in facebook for my friends and family because i realized just because a person is very successful in their career, very successful with their family life raising amazing kids to be great adults, that does not mean they are perfect and there is nothing i can teach them, considering i'm just a loser with no job, no girlfriend or no wife and kids.
i started with the wiki collaboration tool, and ever since my parent's siblings started using wiki, everyone got along and there were no more miscommunication and quarrels. in fact, our family became so prosperous because so many things got done. miracles happen when people communicate properly. ronald reagan's motto was, "trust but verify". a wiki makes it very easy for anyone in the group to verify. my family uses http://www.wiki-site.com. my tito virgilio is our admin because he enjoys updating and using the wiki. for the less tech savvy, use http://www.zoho.com/wiki/ . for optimal productivity, set the options so that collaborators don't need to login. you can also try trello.com for collaborating business and projects.
and now it's much easier for anyone in the group to create online reports or documents (including photos and videos) and link it to your central wiki site. just create a blogger.com account and share the password to the group so anyone can easily create articles to put their documents or reports. you can even incorporate your fb messenger group chat threads in the wiki by simple cut and paste of the link. you can also link your group facebook page or albums.
here are some snap shots of our family wiki (i blotted out some details because i don't want people to find out my family is very poor). just like wikipedia, the table items can be a link you can click to bring you to the details section or separate page of that item. you can even do color coding. example red for critical, yellow for medium, green for optional, etc ... so when you open your family's wiki page you immediately know if there is something critical that needs to be done or not if you see some items in red.
10/20/18 fb post
i just read an article in Wired magazine about how important it is for department managers and VPs to maintain a wiki. mark zuckerberg was eating lunch at the fb's cafeteria when he saw the head of the community relations department. mark z wanted to know the status of the department - their current projects and recent accomplishments. nowadays, it is inefficient and waste of time to talk to the department head and ask him/her to give you an overview of the status. it's more efficient to simply go to the wiki page of that department and get any UP-TO-DATE information you want. but when mark z searched for the wiki of the community relations department in their corporate intranet, he can't find it. so mark z called the department head and when the department head told him they had no department wiki, mark z immediately said "YOU'RE FIRED !!!". moral of the story - make sure your department has a wiki.
