economical laundry setup for my scholars

update:

this is the new earnings figures of my scholars that i presented to wall street in the last report. the raw cost per 3 kg of laundry is P5. since the average market price is P35/kg or P105 per 3kg, it's P105 - P5 = $100 EBIDTA (net income with interest, depreciation, taxes and amortization added back). that's a whopping 95% margin, the highest in the history of mankind, beating apple's long standing record on the margin of it's iphones which is 60%. my scholars are the new darlings of wall street. i mean, 95% is not even a margin anymore that's like the entire page. a margin should not be wider than the width of a sleek orion ruler that only your rich classmates can own while you are stuck with that damn wooden ruler that's always crooked.

life hack: when a faucet hose, toilet hose, shower hose, or shower heater supply hose leaks, try fixing it by replacing the gasket with a cut out from a tire interior tube.

knowledge bomb: all the connectors of the shower hose, shower heater supply line, and toilet fill hose uses the same standard

life hack: never put teflon tape whenever the connection already involves a gasket. i know many expert plumbers who wrongly insist on putting teflon on any threaded connection. this will actually cause leaks later on.

so instead of spending a lot of money and many hours installing the pvcs pipes and drilling holes on a cement wall, it took me just a few minutes to finish the project and only spent $1.75 (faucet ) + $6 (dual port toilet valve) = $7.75.

in the beginning, i thought the more laborous and time consuming the laundry tasks for my scholars, the better because it keeps them pre-occupied and drains their excess radioactive trauma energy. so i did not bother connecting the washer to a water source so they will have to fill a bucket with water and pour it into the washer. but the laundry keeps piling up especially for my airbnb unit so i decided to make it easier for them to do laundry.

i thought i will have to sacrifice the shower port in the bath cubicle (so no more shower)  then run a pvcs pipe to the washer which involves drilling holes on the wall to fasten the clamps for the pvcs pipe. luckily, my brother visited from the states, and my dad replaced the shower hose in his bathroom because it was leaking. when i saw the bad shower hose in the cabinet while getting some tools (it's a common trait of their generation to never throw anything away), i thought, hmmm ... "i wonder if this shower hose can connect to the toilet valve". so i tried it and it worked. before i bought a new shower hose, i tested if i can just replace the gasket with a cut out from a scratch tire interior tube. it worked (no more leak) !!! then i felt i did not want to use the toilet valve as the switch everytime someone fills the washer with water as it will easily wear out from frequent use and it's more difficult to replace (you will need to turn off the main water line). so i rushed to that small hardware store across my old alma matter UP and bought a cheap faucet for P85 ($1.70). luckily the faucet easily connects to the shower hose. no adopter needed. this means both ends of the shower hose uses exactly the same connection standard as the toilet fill hose (so my brother and his wife was endangered from electrocution for no reason because when my dad installed an old shower heater he wasn't able to find a long enough supply line house so i simply lowered the shower heater, but it was in a position where it gets wet when someone takes a shower. my brother noticed this danger so they got a room in marco polo hotel (just kidding actually it was safe).

i got the budget approval from my finance minister skykikay bulangkay to buy a spinner dryer.

this will ease the work load of my scholars but their income will lessen. each time a guest checks out in airbnb the typical laundry load is 2-3 kg. i pay them the equal to a coin operated laundry mat which is P150 (P70 washing + P70 drying). so if they go to a coin operated laundry mat they get no income. but if they do the laundry in my bathroom they get P150 - (water and electricity expense).

water in cebu is P15 /cubic meter = 15 cents/10 liters. each cycle uses 30 liters so it's 15 X 3 = 45 cents. there are 3 cycles per wash (1 wash cycle and 2 rinse cycles) so 45 cents X 3 = P1.35 total water cost.

electricity in cebu is P12 per kilowatt (kw) hour. the washer is 340 w or 0.34 kw. that's 12 X 0.34 = P4.08 kw-h.  the wash cycle is 10 minutes and each rinse cycle is 5 minutes X 2 = 10 minutes. so 20 minutes total or 33.3% of 1 hour so P4.08 X 0.3333 = P1.35 total electricity cost of washer.

the new spinner dryer is 150w (.15 kw), each spin cycle is 5 minutes (.08333 hr). so P12 X .15 X .08333 = P15 cents. OUCH !!! this means my scholars will earn 15 cents less per laundry load. (also contrast this to an electric dryer which is typically 3000 watts (3 kw) so at 30 minutes (.5 hour) that's P12 X 3 X .5 = P18 ~ almost a half kilo of rice for their family)

so that my scholars don't have to cut classes to save the hinayhay when it rains, i let them dry it in my bathroom using an electric fan which is 60w (.06 kw) it only takes 2 hours to dry because it's already almost dry when it comes out of the spinner dryer. so P12 X 2 hours X .06 = P1.44.

total = P2.94 ~ P3

so i pay them P147 round off to P150. but their actual income is P150 - (P10 laundry soap) - (P40 2 rides X 2 way jeepney fair) = P100. but sometimes i give them a ride on my motor cycle if i have nothing to do as long as they keep their distance because i don't like their boobs rubbing against my back).

my friend who owns a racer bike gave me his tire interior tube (it can't be repaired because the kanyuto (valve) has a tear near the stem). i cut out a small segment and used it to extend the drain hose. i also used some spare pvc parts to create a T connection to the washer drain.

life hack: i used elasto sealant around the slip connections instead of pvcs cement so that it will be easy for me to disassemble later on if i need to.  the sealant works because this is just a drain, meaning there is no water pressure. otherwise, you will need the usual pvc cement.

i feel so guilty i've been scolding my scholars why they can't do laundry without creating a mess turns out there was a leak in the drain hose the whole time so i patched it with epoxy. the clamps for the hose has sharp pointy ends so i wrapped the hose with tire interior tube to protect it from getting punctured again.

life hack: sometimes you feel lazy working with epoxy because it's such a hassle having to find an applicator and pad. no problem. just remember this: use a flat head screw driver and any tupperware or plastic container cover, even the ones you are using for food because you will just be using the outside and you will clean it (right after your done or it will be harder to wipe off if it starts to harden). use trash paper like from the test printer paper or junk mail or newspaper (if you are a dinosaur who still buys newspaper).

i have some spare interior tubes because when i first got my motorcycle i did not know you are suppose to regularly put air in the tires because unlike a car, the air volume in a small motorcycle tire is very small so even with the normal or expected leak rate, there won't be enough pressure to protect the interior tube from getting damaged when you hit a bump or a pothole. so within just a year i had to replace the interior tube 3 times before i realized i had to put air in my tires at least once a month especially my motorcycle is always overloaded with 3 passengers when i drop off my scholars to school (using the backroads of course to avoid getting an overloading citation).

life hack: tell your motorcycle errand lackey to put air in the tires at least once a month.

i am having so much fun using my mcgyver skills to setup the infrastructure for my scholars. just like our high school scoutmaster's enthusiasm in mcgyvering the headquarters of the leader's council.

thank god i found a trade surplus of bolts and washers because i'm too lazy to have to go to the store. a trade surplus is something that never happens in america. why worry about america's ever growing trade deficit that donald trump is trying to curtail when it's just your children and grand children who will suffer the consequences when it finally hits critical mass? all we should worry about is trump's cosmetic behavior that does not have anything to do with putting food on the table. we should not worry about china's growing global influence that trump is also strategically trying to curtail. after all, if you watch the youtube videos of the libtards and democrats, you will be convinced that china is suppose to be the good guy and america the bad guy. china's intrusion in the spratleys is good for the philippines because after china harvests the oil and nat gas it will give it to the philippines. SO GENEROUS !!!

now it's time to start drilling or fracking holes in the washer and electric fan. obama and the democrats are suppose to be good for the environment that is why during obama's 8 year in office, america experienced a renaissance of the oil and nat gas boom using fracking which is so good for the environment.  amazing !!!

notice i only have 2 air freshener cans on the top shelf. that means i played in only 2 major golf tournaments in cebu this year.

now to test drive the economical fan dryer on my wet salmon shirt becaues i was riding the motorcycle in the rain. CIS folks have no fashion sense i was the only one in salmon.

life hack: the easiest way to make a laundry line is use the cheap straw rope and use redundancy to prevent sagging. same physics concept as 30 people can easily lift a car. here i use 4 reinforcements (2 on each screw):
