i call on congress (and if possible city councilors) to pass a law that requires call centers, malls, fastfood chains (mcdonalds, jollibee, etc ...), and even government offices to offer part time option. it's ok for the hourly wage of part time workers to be lower than the minimum wage because i understand the company will incur additional overhead expenses. although if companies use the latest cloud based HR management tools (especially those that makes use of AI), the impact will be minimal. i even think it would be a win win situation especially for companies because worker productivity will increase. companies will get more "bang for the buck". here's an analogy - if substitutions are not allowed in basketball, then by the 4th quarter the players will be much less productive because of fatigue.
you may not realize it but this will help millions of people and make our society stronger. please join me in my advocacy by sharing the link to this article with your friends and family in MESSENGER. if you want to post it in your timeline, don't post the link because of course facebook algorithm would not want to put it in the news feeds if it contains a link that would increase the traffic to their main competitor's site. instead, just cut and paste the contents of my article and provide the link in the comments. another thing you can do is go to the facebook pages of your city councilors, mayor and congressman and post this message or the link. if you are gifted with charisma or influencing skills, please make a video about this and i pray your video becomes viral so it will get the attention of our leaders or politicians. this is not even controversial. it's just common sense.
if you are a politician, spearheading this effort would be very good for your career. you might think it's not a big deal but that's because you probably don't know the soul of the people. knowing the true soul of the people is why duterte keeps trouncing traditional politicians. if you live in a bubble and you never immerse your life with the common folks, you should at least listen to someone like me who does. even if you spend a lot of time with the common folks, if you are charismatic or have high status in society, chances are you will still be clueless or naive because people will not act naturally around you and they will only tell you things that you want to hear.
if a person is always stressed out and exhausted, at some point that person will burn out and even resort to drugs. we all have different health and energy levels. so don't think that just because it's no problem for you to work 8 hours, that does not mean millions of people have your stamina or perseverance. my scholars tend to have low energy, maybe because of their childhood trauma or poor nutrition growing up or maybe it's just their pedigree. i try to mentor them on work ethic and eating a healthy diet. when they find a job, usually as a call center or mcdonalds, i advice them to work only 4 hours. those who don't follow my advice and work full time always end up quitting and having animosity towards work for the rest of their life because of burn out and illness. i also learned that it's very common for call center agents, usually those coming from the slums to fall ill, quit and suffer poverty. but i firmly believe that if only they worked part time, they would still be happily working until now.
we must also educate young people that we all have different perseverance levels or stamina. a person with weak genes may feel working 4 hours is not enough because they still have enough energy after working only 4 hours. so they work full time. the problem is that burn out is very deceptive. it creeps on you and by the time you realize it, it's already too late. it usually results in a domino effect. they lose their self esteem, then they get tied up with an abusive relationship they can't get out of because they are now economically dependent, or they become a mistress to married guys. and when they lose their youthful beauty they end up working as a bar girl and resort to drugs to numb their feelings.
i know so many young people who have what it takes to easily work part time in an office, sales person in the mall, or call center. but they don't have the stamina to work full time or 8 hours. i don't know why. maybe it's just their genes or pedigree. so they end up being useless to society and some of them resort to vices or drugs so they become a menace. the sad thing is many of them have kids so the cycle continues with their kids who don't get proper upbringing because of poverty.
call centers start at P18k a month, so if they work part time it's P9k a month. that's more than enough to be self reliant and happy in life. they can just share a room or bed space for P1.5k a month including utilities (electricity and water). food should just cost around P100 a day or P3k a month. just bring baon to work. a half kilo of rice a day is more than enough for 1 person and that's only P25. a can of sardines only cost P18 and you can share it with your roommate so it should just cost you P15 each including the cost of onions, cooking oil and cooking gas. you can buy vegetables such as eggplant, bean sprouts, string beans, ampalaya and fry it with hipon or bagoong, onions and tomatoes. yum yum !!! you can buy peanuts, banana cue or camote cue at the side walk. those are very healthy. or green mangoes for your vitamin C. buwad bulinaw or dilis makes a very health breakfast. i also mentor my scholars to eat quaker oats everyday because it's a cheap super food. pan de sal is jut P5 each. clothes at discount stores such as 138 mall in cebu are very nice and fashionable yet very cheap. shoes are just P300-P800. pants/shorts/skirs around P300-P500 and shirts around P150-P250.
the law should require fast food chains such as mcdonalds and jollibee to pay a minimum of P50/hour or P200/day for part time workers. P1k a week or P4k a month should also be enough especially these workers still live with their parents or relatives.
this law will help the economy because it will tap into an unused labor force - those who can work 4 hours a day but will eventually burn out if they work 8 hours a day. my philosophy is not something new. abraham lincoln once said that wage labor is different from slavery only that it's temporary.

this law will also help those with too much energy or what i call, extended up time - https://ian-crystal.blogspot.com/2013/11/stamina-not-insomnia.html. if you frequently don't have enough sleep because your up time is incompatible with the diameter of the earth, then you can still handle working 4 hours but 8 hours will have disastrous consequence to your mental and physical health.
