push the spring clip in to dislodge the tip so that it can swivel out
at first i thought it was a bad design because there is no reason to deviate from the old twist and pull we've been familiar with for decades. i admit this spring clip design is just as easy, probably even easier if you know what to do but my complaint is why make your customers have to go to youtube. then i realized there's actually an advantage to this design which i will explain later on.
for those who came to this video without first trying to figure it out on their own, let me start from the beginning.
step 1: remove the covers (i'm sure you can easily figure this out on your own)
step 2: squeeze the locking tabs of the electrical connector then pull it out. on the passenger side, you won't be able to get leverage or enough force on your fingers if the locking tabs are positioned horizontally as you can see in the left photo below. that's because there's not enough space above it for your entire hand to fit. just turn it so it will be oriented vertically (right photo). you can now squeeze it with more force. this is where the spring clip design becomes useful because the bulb socket is free to turn (unlike the twist design). although i guess you can use a pair of large pliers to squeeze and pull out if it's in the horizontal position.
step 3: remove the rubber cap
the remaining steps are straight forward.
keep in mind you should never touch the glass part of the new bulb with your fingers because the oil on your fingers will lessen the life of the bulb.
actually my problem wasn't the bulb it was the socket. in case you have the same problem you can buy a new socket in most auto parts stores. if they don't carry it they will order it, it will take around 3 days to arrive.
