the contents of the emergency repair kit for my 1993 nissan b13 are battery, alternator, alternator belt, clutch cable, and gorilla tape to fix hoses temporarily. i also added a starter i got from the junk shop although it's not really important because manual transmissions can be push started. i also rehearsed shorting the starter solenoid with a screw driver in case there is no one to help me push the car. for my 1998 honda civic i added a fuel pump and relay.
for the longest time i've been mooching off other DIYers in youtube without contributing anything in return. finally i have something to contribute. my last contribution was 11 years ago with 44k views (replacing the sway bar bushing of a 2007 mazda 5 to solve the rattling noise problem - https://youtu.be/g9Fg-ntHFxQ) and 34k views (cheater vent to fix slow flushing toilets - https://youtu.be/rXr68swCQ90).
i needed to replace the clutch cable in my 1993 sentra. the videos i found in yt were not helpful luckily i found a quick and easy way to replace a clutch cable so i made a video and posted in my @oplok-videos yt channel (https://youtu.be/ou9Fwk3RrfI). i also a posted a video on how to replace the pcv valve in a 1996-2000 honda civic because the ones i found in youtube were super difficult to follow and they require jacking up the car and working from under. i figured out a quick and easy way without having to jack up the car (https://youtu.be/oV8TbYjkubc).
everyone agrees that nowadays all car batteries don't last as long. some even only last 2 years. that's part of the PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE economic trend. i have no problem with that because we have a free market. anyone is free to produce a car battery that lasts longer. what i don't understand is why not everyone has a spare battery in their car?
think about it. even if you have a new P2.5 million car, when the battery dies you will be STRANDED. in the philippines it's not really a big problem because there's a 24-hour number you can call where they will come to you and replace your battery. they ride a motorcycle so they can still get to you quickly even if it's heavy rush hour traffic. but it's still a hassle. and if you are in a long trip in the province where there is no battery service nearby, you are screwed.
i think always carrying a spare battery and the required wrench and learning to replace the battery on a car you just bought should be standard PRACTICE.

i finally found the source of coolant leak. while waiting for the new intake manifold and gasket i ordered from lazada, i mcgyvered it with water pipe fittings and heat resistant epoxy. i think it will hold because the heat resistant epoxy is used to patch radiators. i condemned the coolant hose for the throttle body because it's only meant to prevent the throttle body from freezing and there is no winter in the philippines. the manifold will be a quick and easy replacement because i was able to loosen all the bolts. but when the manifold arrived i decided to wait until my mcgyver solution starts leaking because i'm very curious to know how long the epoxy can last. my big REGRET was i used the 250-degree resistant epoxy instead of the 300 degrees. i had this BIAS that belmont hardware is the king of hardware stores and the hardware stores in the mall are lame so after buying the 250-degree epoxy from belmont i didn't bother to check the hardware stores in the mall. i found out too late while buying hose clamps in true value i saw the 300-degree resistant epoxy. so i just reinforced my mcgyver by doing a 2nd coating with the 300-degree resistant epoxy.

the 1998 honda civic becomes less powerful when it gets hot. no mechanic was able to solve the problem. going up alta vista it slows to a crawl when it reaches near the driving range. the problem never happens going to tops busay even if it's much higher and steeper, so it gave me a hint that maybe the problem only happens when the engine gets too hot because tops is only 15 minutes from my house, i only go there at night and there is no traffic so the engine never gets hot enough to trigger the problem.
AI suggested i change the ignition coil and it fixed the problem. i was amazed when it climbed up alta vista pretty fast even if aircon was full blast, there was a passenger (my golfing buddy bart), it was a hot day and going there was traffic. the temperature gauge stayed below 1/2. i drove it to medellin and back with 4 passengers without any problem.
AI said the ignition coil became bad because of HEAT SOAK, and suggested to minimize heat soak by wrapping the exhaust manifold with exhaust wrap. AI knew i was friends with elon musk and suggested i ask elon to send me heat reflective tape that elon uses on his starlink satellites and use it to wrap the intake filter housing, tube, and manifold of my car.
i took out the fuel injectors so i have space to wrap the top and bottom of the intake manifold with heat reflective tape and noticed the injectors were dirty. AI said the buildup on the injectors is caused by heat soak. for now i won't replace the injectors because i want to know if the exhaust wrap and heat reflective tape will result in more performance improvement. if i replace the injectors then i won't know if the improvement was caused by the exhaust wrap and heat reflective tape or the new injectors.
i was shocked to find out the injectors are only P389x4=P1,556 in lazada. i remember the fuel injectors for toyota innova cost P50kx4=P200k at the dealership.

workaround for incompatible fuel level sender and gauge ohm range
the resistance range of the fuel level sending unit for my nissan b13 is 4-84ohms but the closest gauge i can buy is 0-190 ohms. so i simply interpret a half tank reading as full tank and a 1/4 reading as half tank. the polarity is also reversed so i simply installed the gauge upside down. youtube video: https://youtu.be/--j4RXWQSpU?si=x5d2oViyeVyNMv0e

the wiper motor died so i bought 2 from the junk shop (1 extra/spare).
i also bought extra starter and alternator and replaced the existing ones even if they are still working and kept them as spare for emergency when i go on long road trips with the b13 club. they are cheap because junk shop owners are middle class so they have no clue that the price of copper has recently skyrocketed due to high demand from the AI data center buildouts. that's why i notice the copper industry is celebrating with golf tournaments.
according to adam carolla, only poor people and rich people know the price of copper. rich people bet on copper futures and poor people collect copper scraps para ipatimbang. the middle class only have indoor showers while rich people and poor people have outdoor showers. rich people have outdoor shower by the pool while poor people have a barrel of water on the roof of their tiny house and just siphon it with a hose to take a shower. rich people and poor people take drugs while the middle class have jobs. rich people and poor people usually have broken families while the middle class stick together. rich people and poor people usually have lots of cars. the difference is the cars of poor people have no wheels and engines and are rusting on top of hollow blocks outside their house with rats living inside.
the nut blended with the bolt because of rust. so i just cut it with a grinder. i used the defective one as organ donor. i always secure insulation covers with a zip tie. the finishing touch is to replace the wiper blades.

to fix broken joints, i simply had to ask myself, "what would dr. monicit, dr. ruedas, and doctor gaboya do?". a gen z stayed at my airbnb and was initially happy but days later when she saw these hacks she had a nervous breakdown, called airbnb and airbnb kicked me out. at least i know that mcgyverism is disgusting and despicable and has no place in the normal world.

i got worried because i haven't heard the soothing and comforting croak of TUKO (gecko) in a while that's why i inspected the house for termites. tuko eats termites so they naturally help prevent termite devastation. unfortunately cats also eat tukos and our house has been occupied by lots of stray cats. i cannot get rid of the cats because im not tramp and they have been adopted by our maid's daughter. she even cried when i had the cats and dogs ligated and neutered. fortunately, mapecon f3plus powder is effective in eradicating termites.
